Chicagonista: Viaggio is a Must-(re)Visit Italian Spot in Chicago
The burgeoning selection of restaurants to try in West loop has kept me from dining from old-timers like Viaggio. Thanks to an invitation to try their Italian classics and house specialties, I may have found my new go-to on a not-so-new Italian place.
The stellar experience started as soon as we walked in their 1330 W. Madison location. The warm ambiance and friendly welcome set us off right. The place calls out for some dirty martini to whet our appetites. Almost waiting for a modern singing Dean Martin to come out and serve us our drinks. For appetizers we had Mussels on spicy tomato sauce and for entrée we chose Lamb Chops Oreganato with sautéed Spinach and Garlic mashed potatoes and Braised Pork Neck Bones, slowly cooked in white wine and tomatoes. The dinner portions were very generous so prepare to make some room. While we dined so happily, a table near us was about ready to leave and just had to mention that it is their first time dining in there and they loved everything about the place. The smile on their faces equally matched ours. No doubt my foodie friend and myself felt exactly the same way! For a finale, we clinked out coffee cups topping off our dinner with the Tiramisu. Perfect end to a perfect evening.
This place is perfect in fighting the winter blues away. While there is an infinite list of new restaurants to check out in the West Loop area, don’t miss in visiting (or revisiting) this place. Bring your friends and family along with you when visiting Viaggio and I promise that you’ll thank us!
